Serious Games

Games Integration into HLA Federations (Acron or LVC Game)
Latest Projects
Introduction
Acron is leading the way in Serious Games development and
integration services. Serious Games is an emerging technology
area that uses Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) gaming technology in
serious training applications. Many commercial games are
already used for purposes other than entertainment including urban
planning, medicine, conflict resolution, first responders, education
and defence to name a few.
With the revolution in PC computer graphics hardware and
software, high fidelity simulation is no longer in the domain of
multi-million dollar simulation and visualization systems. The
low cost of COTS gaming technology also brings it within reach of
most organizations.
Integration into Existing Synthetic
Environments
Using custom developed software or
LVC Game,
Acron is able to integrate COTS gaming technology into a DIS, HLA
1.3 or IEEE 1516 environment. There are limitations depending
upon the game infrastructure, but generally interoperability can be
achieved for some form of interaction with entities and objects as
long as the game API is open and supports such interactions.
Content Creation
Acron is able to develop complex scenarios for your target gaming
platform, including building new 3D objects, terrain and
interactions. Our former Military and Government staff
can talk your language and have field experience to draw upon to
create the training scenario you require. Acron is also able to
provide terrain and object conversion services to the target
platform and can work with OpenFlight databases and terrain source
data such as DTED and VMAP.
Hardware Integration
Acron can build hardware for your serious games applications from
simple input devices and weapons systems to full vehicle mock-ups,
cockpits and simulators.
Federation Management
Our staff are experienced in using the FEDEP and SEDEP processes
to formulate the best possible solution for the creation of
Synthetic Environments. We have used this process in Serious
Games implementations as well to ensure that the delivered solution
meets or exceeds the customer expectations.
Unparalleled Experience
Our CEO, John Nicol initiated Serious Games into the New Zealand
Army as far back as 1999 with a series of exercises that utilized
well known commerical first person "shooters", UbiSoft Rainbow Six
and Novalogic Delta Force
. He also worked with the
developer of the tactical game, TacOps, to develop a New Zealand
version, which became the first enterprise licence granted to any
country. Subsequently versions were made for the Australian
Army, US Marines and others.
Existing Clients
Acron already has Serious Games clients in the Canadian
Department of National Defence, including Defence and Research
Development Canada and the Canadian Army.
